Not only is this the best Stevie Wonder album, but in my opinion would have to be one of the top 20 albums of the 1970's. According to the Best of the 70's list it is the 34th best album.
Between 1972 and 1976 Stevie Wonder put out five albums that are considered to be the core of his career starting with Music of My Mind and ending with Songs In the Key of Life. Innervisions released in 1973 falls right in the middle of these five releases and blends the sound of the first two with the two that would follow and packages it into a very solid nine tracks.
If you only want to own one Stevie Wonder album this is the one I would go with. I find that you can play it any time for any reason. If you're feeling angry you'll be drawn to "Living for the City." If you are feeling upbeat you'll be likely to turn to "Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing" and wonderfully these songs fit perfectly together on this album.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 4 out of 5 stars for Really Good.
I'm really surprised this did not get five stars.
ReplyDeleteThis song is so, so, so fantastic.
