It's hard to believe this album, sitting at number 44 on the Best of the 70's list, came out in 1970. The Stooges are given credit for being the spark for the punk scene which would hit six years later, but The Stooges and especially Funhouse is much more than that.
From the opening moments of "Down On the Street" the energy jumps off of this album and you get the perfect blend of the noisy guitar work and Iggy Pop's gritty vocals. It sounds angry and violent and scary, but somehow inviting.
The final two tracks drag the album down a bit for me, but the opening three have to be one of the most energetic stretches of music in rock history.
If I was a kid who was going to film myself doing crazy stunts on my bike I would definitely pick some stuff off of this album. As it is I find this great to play when I need to let off some steam.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
