Sitting at number 70 on the Best of the 70's list comes this third album from the Talking Heads. I've never been a big Talking Heads fan and don't really know much about them. From what I've read this album is a bit of a transitional album as they start to turn toward world beats and turn their sound and lyrics darker than their earlier work. This would come to full fruition on their next album Remain in the Light but on Fear of Music it is just taking shape and so there is a blend of the old and the new here.
To me it's pretty simple, you either like the Talking Heads or you don't. I would be in the don't like camp. If you like the Talking Heads and you don't know this album, give it a listen. If you are like me and you're not all that crazy about them then give a listen to "I Zimbra" and you'll hear the beginnings of their new sound. Listen to "Life During Wartime" and you'll hear how Byrnes is growing lyrically and learning to integrate pop into their sound.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
What a great, great song. I'm loving the 1970s countdown!
