Best of the 70's: Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel

Bridge Over Troubled WaterAnother 1970 release and another swansong this album comes in at number 35 on the Best of the 70's list.

I've never been all that crazy about this album as an album.  If I were going to recommend a Simon and Garfunkel album it would either be Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme or Bookends, but generally speaking this album is considered to be their master work.

It does have five of their better songs "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "El Condor Pasa," "Cecilia," "The Boxer," and "The Only Living Boy In New York" but the rest of the album for me is pure throwaway.

Simon and Garfunkel are fantastic driving music and this album is no exception.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.

  1. If you can find it, it is definitely worth looking for the original issue of Rolling Stone magazine that reviewed this album and Led Zeppelin IV in the same week. As you can imagine, RS pretty much hated both albums.

  2. This Fifth Dimension presentation is obviously where Billy Crystal got his idea for his famous Oscars monologue song.

  3. This is really so outstanding. Completely up my alley. I've watched it twice now and am going back for a third helping. Every Grammys presentation should have to be done like that.
