Album Review: Passive Me, Aggressive You by The Naked and Famous

Passive Me, Aggressive YouThis album has quite a few good moments, but the problem for me is consistency.  They are a bit all over the place with their sound and though they seem to have a good grasp on what they are trying to do per track, they sound a bit lost when trying to construct a full album.  It feels like a few albums in one and it kind of wears you down over the 13 tracks.

One side of this band is straight power synth pop and to that end these guys do a good job with songs like the opener "All of This."  On the other side they are doing more noise based avant garde pop and that works well too, think of a song like "The Sun."  The problem is those two moods don't really fit that well together when thrown in on the same album.

On some tracks, like "Eyes," they are working to blend the two sounds together, but those I feel are their weakest tracks.  Maybe down the road that blended sound will be what they master but for now it is still a work in progress.

A good listen after a night of clubbing or going to a very exciting sporting event.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
