Texas country artist Hayes Carll takes us from bar country-rock songs to slow twangy ballads and does it all with an ease that is quite compelling.
To me though part of making an album is putting together a group of songs that fit together to create an experience. With Carll all over the map musically and lyrically it's a bit hard to fall fully into the experience. The album would make background music and I could see picking songs for mix tapes, but as a full unit that draws you in it falls short.
A fun album to play while playing pool.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
This song reminds me of another.
ReplyDeleteWell, this has set me off on a huge John Prine jag. Good jag to be on.
