When this emo band started 12 years ago these guys were 20, now they are 32 and though they've held onto the emo hardcore sound that they embraced back then, lyrically they have abandoned the self loathing stuff and turned their attention to politics.
The majority of this album is an angry creed toward the corruption of government, the laziness of their generation, and the sacrifices being made by too few for the many. On the few tracks that are not political, they turn their focus on relationships, either starting or ending and look at them through very similar eyes as they are looking at what they see as the failure of the government or the energy needed behind change.
Lyrically I find this album quite interesting, musically it's pretty conservative in its approach and that takes a bit of the bite out of the songs. Still I think it's a pretty good effort.
When election time comes around and you're trying to get motivated to get involved give this a listen. It has that wonderful anger of turning 30 and realizing what a mess the world is in and wanting to change it all.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
I really, truly disliked being in my 30's. I was happier in both my 20's and in my 40's than I was in my 30's.
