Album Review: Departing by The Rural Alberta Advantage

DepartingI like this album.  It's a fun listen because of its energy.  The songs are well constructed with good pop hooks, but just off center enough to fit the indie pop label they have stuck on them perfectly.

A trio out of Canada these guys hit it big back in 2008 with their self released CD Hometowns. It made a big enough splash, that the band got picked up by Saddle Creek records. This is their first album under Saddle Creek, so their first chance to see what they could do with a real studio.

I love the sound they've come up with. It still has the rawness of their home recorded first album, but they've taken full advantage of the studio and added layering and color to their sound to give the songs much more life and energy.

This is a great spring album as it has the energy you'd like but still a bit off kilter and moody. Throw this one on while driving around to pick up flowers for your garden and it will make for a fun Saturday.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
