Album Review: Beau Soir by Janine Jansen

Beau SoirThis is my first classical album review and I feel quite lost.

I played the violin as a youngster and so I have a love for the instrument and I really like the setup for this album a simple duet with Jansen and pianist Itamar Golan.

The music chosen is quiet and spacious and Jansen and Golan do a nice job of allowing the pieces to develop naturally.  Often this quiet and calm leads us into uncomfortable territory and so this album is not calming but more challenging.  Even their take on "Clair de Lune" focuses on the harder edges of the song and creates a version that is much sadder and paced than most I've heard.

If you feel like some moody classical music then give this a listen, I would not recommend it while trying to relax.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
