Top 10 Update

Here's how the top 10 boys basketball teams in Kentucky fared in the District Tournaments:

Number 1 Louisville Eastern rolled to the 28th District title, burying Kentucky Country Day 81-38 and blowing out Jeffersontown 72-52. Eastern is now 28-2 overall, 15-1 against teams from the 7th region, and 2-1 against J-Town.

Number 2 Louisville Ballard won the 27th District title, beating Trinity 73-62 and pounding Seneca 92-76. The Bruins are 28-3 overall, but 0-2 against Eastern, who will also be competing for the 7th region title.

Number 3 George Rogers Clark won the 40th District, beating Paris 102-47 (!) and Montgomery Co. 67-59. The Cardinals are 26-5, and they will be very heavy favorites to capture the 10th Region.

Number 4 Lexington Tates Creek won the 43d District with a 50-37 win over Lexington Christian and a 46-45 squeaker over Lexington Catholic. The Creekers are 23-4, but they will have a hard row to hoe in a brutal 11th Region tournament.

Number 5 Christian Co. did not win the 8th District. The Colonels rolled over Fort Campbell 96-27, but were stunned by University Heights 58-56. County is now 18-9, but it seems almost certain that they will work their way to the 2d Region finals -- where they will probably face U Heights again.

Number 6 Scott Co. (a.k.a. Toyota High) cruised in the 42d District, beating Bryan Station 66-41 and Henry Clay 79-66. The Cardinals are now 23-5, and they will also be battling for that 11th Region title.

Number 7 Lexington Catholic finished second in the 43d District, beating Lafayette 88-69 but losing to Tates Creek 46-45. Because of that loss, the 23-7 Knights have to face Scott Co. in the first round of the 11th Region tournament -- a rough draw for both teams.

Number 8 John Hardin finished second in the 17th District. Hardin beat Central Hardin 67-48, but then they were upset by 14-12 Elizabethtown 81-76 in four overtimes (!). John Hardin is 22-3, and they will still be favored to win the 5th Region.

Number 9 Louisville Jeffersontown, which has not been all that sharp since winning the King of the Bluegrass, finished second in the 28th District. The Chargers beat Louisville Christian Academy 53-42, but were killed by Eastern 72-52. J-Town is 23-6, and they will get another shot in the 7th Region.

Number 10 Louisville Trinity got the worst draw of any team in the state. The Shamrocks had to play Louisville Ballard in the first round of the 27th District Tournament. They lost, 73-62, and their season is over. They can take pride in their 21-8 record in their state football title.

  1. Great point about Trinity's tough draw.

I'm concerned about the wellbeing of Paris, Ky.
