These guys hit it big in 2007 with their single "Hey There Delilah" going to number one. At this point the band had put out three albums and had been around for 10 years. The success of that single pushed their third album up to number 10 on the Billboard chart. They answered this success in 2008 with Big Bad World and though it sold well, reaching 33 on the Billboard chart, it didn't quite match their success from the year before. Now they are back, still trying to match that one hit success they experienced back in 2007.
For the Plain White T's there has to be some frustration in finding one hit success. They put together pretty consistent albums and so you have to wonder as an artist why one song found such success while their other work struggles to find a wider audience. This album, like their others, is solid power pop. It's a solid effort with no bad moments, and so if you are a power pop fan it's a good album.
I find it to be a bit long at 14 tracks, but it goes by pretty fast and you certainly don't feel the length like you do with some albums. I could see playing this one on a family trip to the beach.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 3 out of 5 stars for Pretty Good.
I'd never been to an ocean beach until I was 25. And then I was lucky enough to go about a zillion times in the next 10 years, and now the thought of going to a beach hardly ever grabs me.
