Album Review: Cannibal by Ke$ha

CannibalI really hated Animal which came out just a year ago.  It was a very poor underground, dance record.  It was overly vulgar with nothing interesting musically.  But it was a big hit, so Ke$ha is back with a sequel.

In fact she's back with a much better album.  It still isn't very good and lyrically it is still extremely juvenile, but she's toned down the vulgarity, remember this is relative.  What she's really done here is made a better Katy Perry album than Katy Perry made this year.  There are moments on this album where I honestly don't think people would know whether this was Perry or Ke$ha.

Sad to say there are some interesting underground dance artists out there like Uffie who struggle to get air time, while someone like Ke$ha sells, well no one sells millions anymore, but sells a lot of albums.

You could pull songs off of here for a workout mix.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.

  1. Dance people always seem to feel so threatened or something.

"Got Jesus on my 'neck-uh-luh-suhs'" is an inspired rhyme.

  2. A Ke$ha song came on the "Party Favorites" MusicChoice station to which my daughter and I were dancing earlier this evening, and I felt so in-the-know and hip. (Thank you, Heath Post!)

Immediately following the Ke$ha song came the seminal "Let It Whip" by Dazz Band, and the whole house blew up.
