Update on Other Kentucky Schools

Murray State has big games coming up at Eastern Kentucky (tonight) and Morehead (on Saturday), so this is a good time to check in on how the D-1 basketball programs in Kentucky (other than the Big Blue) are faring:

Murray State: The Racers are 3-3 after a fourth-place finish in the 76 Classic in Anaheim, California. Murray upset Stanford 55-52 in the first round, but then lost to UNLV (69-55) and Oklahoma State (66-49). Not necessarily bad results, but you would like to see closer margins.

Morehead State: The Eagles are 3-3 with losses at UNC-Wilmington (60-58), Florida (61-55) and Ohio State (83-64). In their last game, they beat SIU Edwardsville 83-64.

W. Kentucky: The Hilltoppers are 3-4 with a three-game losing streak. In the Honda Puerto Rico Tip Off, they lost the fifth-place game to Davidson, 64-51. Then at home against South Carolina (and their former coach), they led almost the whole way before losing 87-85 in double OT. Then on Tuesday, they were blown out at Vandy by 82-62. Next up they go to Memphis on Saturday.

E. Kentucky: The Colonels are 3-3 with what may be the worst schedule in the country so far. They have beaten Indiana State, SIU Edwardsville, and something called "Cincinnati Christian." They have lost to Loyola of Chicago, Texas-Pan American, and Presbyterian. I wouldn't look for any of those schools on Selection Sunday. Next Wednesday they play an outfit called "Kentucky Christian," and we'll see if Kentucky Christians are as good as the Cincy Christians.

Louisville: The Cardinals are 5-0 with only one win over decent competition (Butler). Unless I'm reading the schedule wrong, they won't leave the Commonwealth until January 9th. During that whole time, their only road game will be at WKU. Nice work if you can get it.
