The King of the Bluegrass

Last year, the state title went to Pike County. But this year, Louisville is reasserting itself. Jeffersontown and Eastern both had very easy wins in the semi-finals to set up an all-28th District final:

Winners' Bracket:

Semi-finals:
Game 19: Jeffersontown (1) beat Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ) 74-58
Game 20: Lou. Eastern (2) pounded Bowling Green (7) 75-46

Consolation Games:
Game 17: Sheldon (Sacramento, CA) beat Bob Jones (Madison, AL) 65-61
Game 18: Lou. Trinity (12) beat Boone Co. (21) 67-59

These results set up the following match-ups for today:

Final:
Game 28: Jeffersontown (1) v. Lou. Eastern (2)

Third-Place Game:
Game 27: Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ) v. Bowling Green (7)

Fifth-Place Game:
Game 26: Sheldon (Sacramento, CA) v. Lou. Trinity (12)

Meanwhile, over in the Losers' Bracket:

Game 21: Lou. Pleasure Ridge Park 105, Pearl (MS) 60 (My guess is the guys from Pearl will be happy to see Kentucky in their rear-view mirror.)
Game 22: Lou. Iroquois 74, Lou. Fairdale 68 (The hosts didn't win a single game in their own tournament.)

Game 23: Warren Cent. 73, Lou. Male 55
Game 24: Bullitt East 62, Christian Co. 52 (This has been an extremely disappointing tournament for County, who came in as the number 3 team in the Commonwealth. The Colonels lost to Trinity in overtime, rebounded with a win over Iroquois, but were then beaten by Bullitt East.)

This means that the "Consolation Final" -- what I think of as the battle for 9th place -- will be:

Game 25: Warren Cent. v. Bullitt East
