King of the Bluegrass

The big King of the Bluegrass tournament got underway at Louisville Fairdale yesterday. It is a sixteen-team tournament, so the winners of yesterday's games advanced to the quarterfinals. Games 1-4, which were originally scheduled for Friday, are now scheduled to take place today. Here are yesterday's results:

Game 5: Sheldon (Sacramento, CA) beat Warren Central 84-62. Sheldon led by only 40-34 at the half, but blew things open in the second half.

Game 6: Bob Jones (Madison, AL) beat Pleasure Ridge Park 70-68. This game was close all the way, but PRP never could quite get over the top.

Game 7: Jeffersontown, the number one team in Kentucky, pounded Pearl (MS) 95-49. J-Town advances to play Sheldon.

Game 8: Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ) beat Male 63-58. Male was up 44-38 early in the fourth quarter before Chaparral went on a 15-4 run to take control of the game. Chaparral will play Bob Jones in the quarter-finals.

A hat-tip to Jason Frakes of the Courier-Journal, who provided good coverage of all four games.
