King of the Bluegrass

We'll know a lot more about the state of high school basketball after the annual King of the Bluegrass tournament, which kicks off tomorrow at Fairdale High School in Louisville. Jeffersontown, the pre-season favorite to cap the state crown, has been placed in a bracket with a collection of out-of-state powers. A number of other highly-ranked teams are also included. Here are the matchups for the first-round games on Friday and Saturday, with pre-season Kentucky coach's rankings in parentheses:

Friday, December 17:
Lou. Fairdale v. Boone Co. (21)
Lou. Eastern (2) v. Bullitt East
Lou. Trinity (12) v. Christian Co. (3)
Lou. Iroquois (13) v. Bowling Green (7)

Saturday, December 18:
Lou. Jeffersontown (1) v. Pearl (Pearl, MS)
Warren Cent. (5) v. Sheldon (Sacramento, CA)
Lou. Male v. Chaparral (Scottsdale, AZ)
Bob Jones (Madison, AL) v. Lou. Pleasure Ridge Park (11)

By the way, Bob Jones High School is a public high school in northern Alabama named after a former Congressman; it has nothing to do with Bob Jones University.
