There is nothing experimental going on here, these guys have stripped down to a very straight forward power pop band with hints of their punk origins. I have listened to quite a few albums lately, like stuff from Wheezer, that is trying to get here but failing miserably when compared to this. The energy, the hooks everything is here to make for a very enjoyable listen.
Supposedly there is a concept underneath this album, but it is lost to me and from what I can tell most anyone reviewing it. That being said if that's what it takes to inspire this kind of songwriting then I would say stick with it because it works.
One of the best power pop albums I've heard in years I would say throw this on anytime you feel like rocking out and having fun.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 4 out of 5 stars for Really Good.
That was a great song. I'm very excited about this album.
ReplyDeleteThis concept seems to involve the same anti-corporatist agenda that has been behind almost all art in the West since Wordsworth and Coleridge wrote the Lyrical Ballads back in 1798.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, this whole thing -- the heavy guitar sound, the angry anti-corporate lyrics, the idea of a big concept album -- reminds me a lot of "American Idiot" by Green Day. Which is good, because I really like "American Idiot."
ReplyDeleteYeah I've seen a lot of people comparing it to that album.
ReplyDelete"Everybody wants to change the world
ReplyDeleteEverybody wants to change the world
But no one, no one
Wants to die."
I really like that lyric.
i like: "shut up, and let me see your jazz hands."
