I have decided to limit the albums to the ones I have reviewed on The Heath Post. This eliminates a lot of albums, but that's OK next year we'll have plenty more to choose from. Here is my top 10, the link will take you back to my original review.
10. Barking by Underworld
This album has aged well for me. So much electronica to me just sounds like a series of beats, but these guys actually put together an album.
9. Speak Now by Taylor Swift
A surprise pick for me, this album has held up better than I expected. I'm always thrown off by what a good songwriter Swift is.
8. Lady Killer by Cee Lo Green
The best singer going this album is solid from top to bottom, a fun listen.
7. Olympia by Bryan Ferry
I like Bryan Ferry and I really like this album. It is essentially a Roxy Music album and it flows perfectly following their last effort Avalon from 28 years ago.
6. Libra Scale by Ne-Yo
This is the best pop R&B album I have heard in quite a few years.
5. Man on the Moon 2 by Kid Cudi
When hip-hop is done well it's hard to beat. Cudi and West are pushing into a new direction and bringing back the power and smartness of hip-hop.
4. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West
No matter what you think of West, this album is brilliant.
3. Rubber Soulive by Soulive
By far the best jazz album I've heard in years. This album gets me going every time I hear it.
2. Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys by My Chemical Romance
It's hard to beat rock and roll. These guys brought a dose of rock into their pop-punk sound and put together a nonstop powerhouse.
1. Body Talk by Robyn
This album combines three brilliant EPs that all came out this year. For me Robyn dominated this year in music. I awaited every EP and everyone was as good as the one before, all combining to make a fantastic pop album.
Smart Girl and I were really, really pulling for My Chemical Romance.
ReplyDeleteI just want to note that I reviewed 60 albums all on Rhapsody. You can subscribe to Rhapsody for streaming for $10 a month, though I pay $15 a month to have the ability to download to up to three players as well. My first review was in September so that's 60 albums for $60 and those are just the albums I reviewed. Most of the albums through Amazon were listed at $5. At $5 an album it would have cost $300.
ReplyDeleteit occurs to me that i should've turned my note that Robyn was appearing on Jay Leno's program into an "HP special report."
ReplyDeleteby the way, i'm very excited to learn that there will be more album reviews in 2011.
ReplyDeleteWell we currently have no TV up here in Idaho. We were going to go antenna, but then I remembered that we would need to buy a digital converter box and that plus an antenna is like $80 or so. So we are debating whether to get no television or get cable.
