Oh, Kentucky

Follows-up from Friday's night's "Ah, Footbah" dispatches:
"He got us in the huddle and he asked us, he asked all of our seniors 'what do you want to do?'" Hazard quarterback Jon Combs told Mark Maloney of The Herald-Leader. "Every one of us said we want to go for the win. And when he called my number, there was nothing stopping me from getting into the end zone." ... "The kickoff return was the dagger," Beechwood coach Noel Rash told Terry Boehmker of The Kentucky Post. "I mean it was pretty evident to everybody. We got a little momentum swing, and they stuck it to us right there." ... Jay Compton reports in Middlesboro Daily News that, in holding off home-standing Bell County for a 25-21 victory, Boyle County "converted three first downs as they ran the final four minutes off the clock to seal the win." ... At home, Union Ryle came up about 209 yards short of its per-game rushing average against Louisville Trinity, Jason Frakes reported in The Courier-Journal. ... Allen County-Scottsville attempted just one pass in its 20-16 win at Louisville Western, Franklin Foshee wrote in The Courier-Journal. ... And The C-J's Jody Demling added that Louisville Male "converted two onside kicks in the first 17 seconds of the game" in a win at Scott County. ... It was 29-19, Admirals, after just one quarter in Danville, but then ... After his team's loss at Belfry, Somerset head coach Rob Lucas to Tim Hyden of the Commonwealth Journal: "This loss can be boiled down to three things: Penalties, turnovers, and lack of composure. These are things we’ve struggled with for awhile, and as the coach it was my responsibility to get it straightened out. We obviously didn’t, and I think that reflects on me."

By the way, on the same day that Anthony Hickey would quarterback Christian County into the Class 5A state-championship football game, he was being identified by The Herald-Leader's Mike Fields as the state's third-best basketball player.

Lorie Settles in The Middlesboro Daily News reports that the scourge of methamphetamines in Kentucky is apparently intensifying.

An interesting conversation about Paducah/McCracken County consolidation conversations and growth/lack thereof.

They could've had my "hear, hear" at "... he sold and installed the first television set in Paducah, ..."

The eagles are heading back southward!

Rock on, Cafeteria Lady.

Even Santa gives deadlines.
