Oh, Kentucky

Ah, Paducah.

Some followsup from Friday night's "Ah, Footbah" coverage: Keith Jenkins of the Kentucky New Era reported that Christian County's coach channeled Warren Central in rallying the troops from 10-0 down in the fourth quarter to beat Bowling Green last Friday in the Class 5A round of 16. Now the Colonels' Steve Lovelace is spending this week figuring out how to beat Warren Central. ... Turning to Class 4A, WestKentuckyStar.com reported that Lone Oak got 141 yards and two touchdowns on 22 rushes out of a receiver shifted to running back in its come-from-behind win over Franklin-Simpson last Friday. ... "We have our faults, but playing hard for four quarters usually isn’t one of them," Jonathan Lintner quoted Russellville coach John Meyers as saying in The Park City Daily News after the Panthers' 38-19 win over visiting Union County in 3A. ... Jimmy Trodglen reported in The Leaf-Chronicle of Clarksville, Tenn., that, in what had been a 14-7 game at intermission, Murray ran for 225 second-half yards to end Fort Campbell's three-year run of 2A state championships. ...

Andy Barr's recount netted him one more vote from Lincoln County, but the ruling on the field stands--as does The Heath Post's perfect record on Kentucky-election predictions.

Middletown's mayor elaborates on the city's decision to not foot part of the bill for the Louisville Eastern High School Eagles marching band's trip to New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

L Is For Louisville.

The Telethon of Stars is over (pledges neared $421,000 as of yesterday), but the beat goes on for Lew Jetton and 61 South. The former WPSD meteorologist and veteran bluesman--Jetton says he is "one of the few that can not only sing and play 'Stormy Monday,' but can also forecast it"--plays a Relay for Life fundraiser at Paducah's Maiden Alley Cinema tomorrow night. Jetton's journal of a 2003 tour through the Newsbeat 6 area is a lot of fun.

Lodges at 17 Kentucky State Parks are shifting to reduced winter hours to cut costs, and Marshall County's judge-executive, for one, isn't a fan of the plan. I imagine the Department of Parks saw no other way, but the unfortunate news does make me sadly wonder whether this would've jeopardized my family's post-Christmas get-togethers at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park cottages, circa 1979-83 or so. The back of Homer Brown's postcard (below) from Gilbertsville describes the cottages as "found among beautiful trees" and "just right for those wanting something extra." Hear, hear, Homer.
