Oh, Kentucky

Once I'm allocated a budget for my department at The Heath Post, I'm going to spend most of it on online subscriptions to all of the Kentucky newspaper sites so I don't have to content myself with reading just a paragraph or two of items such as these letters to the editor about Todd County taxes and Hopkinsville football. Of course, I know how this will go. You new-media Paxtons will always be tightening my budget, complaining about the rising cost of domain-registration renewal or whatever, and I'll always be hanging out in the break room complaining about all of the great stuff we could do at The HP if you guys would re-invest just a little more of your profits in the news operation.

It's obvious to me that Iron Chef America needs to bring in a consultant from The Unofficial College Football Championship to retool the competitive structure of its program. Louisville's Edward Lee beat a so-called "Iron Chef" last night, but I can't exactly figure out whether that win means anything within context of a tournament or title-holder scenario.

It started with a "milk crate full of comic books in my closet" when he was growing up in Danville, reports Elizabeth Kramer in The Courier-Journal.

I never "dragged the gut." I didn't even know about "dragging the gut."

Congratulations to the National Sheriff's Association's 2010 "Sheriff of the Year." This must be a happy time for "Peanuts," given this and the fact that his dear Purples are looking like strong contenders in the KHSAA football playoffs.

I, too, need to learn more about the Cumberland River.

It doesn't get any sadder than this.

Meanwhile, Madisonville's 46th-annual veterans parade couldn't have fallen on a prettier Sunday afternoon.

  2. When the HP gets a break room, I will donate my little NFL pennants for use as decoration.

  4. If he hasn't, Tim Murley should pick up a book called "Pirate Coast" written by Richard Zacks. It's about the U.S. response to the Barbary Pirates in 1805. It's a great read.
