Well, I thought UK looked pretty good last Friday, beating ETSU 88-65, but the AP voters dropped the Cats from Number 11 to Number 12 in this week's poll. The Cats' position at 11 was taken by Gonzaga, who beat Southern 117-72 and IUPUI (trying saying that three times fast) 86-56.
This is the first week the Cats have been number 12 in the AP poll since December 14, 2002, when they lost 67-71 at home to Michigan State. The last time the Cats played in the NCAA tournament as a number 12 was 1983, when they beat #5 Indiana 64-59 but lost to #2 Louisville 80-68 in overtime. (I remembered expecting U of L to beat us in that game, and those poll numbers show me that I wasn't just being my usual pessimistic self.)
Kentucky's all-time record as a number 12 is 28-8.
