Ryder Cup -- Saturday (10:43 AM BST)

Fisher (EUR) took forever to line up his birdie putt, and then hit a weak putt and that didn't even come close.

Poulter (EUR) also took forever, and also made a very weak putt.

They then conceded Stricker's birdie, and the USA has the lead after the first session. The key to this session was that two U.S. rookies -- Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton -- who were expected to get drilled by Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington, actually cruised to a fairly easy victory. So the USA is in the lead even though Mickelson and Woods were both dreadful.

Westwood/Kaymer (EUR) 3&2 Mickelson/Johnson (USA)
McIlroy/McDowell (EUR) Halved Cink/Kuchar (USA)
Poulter/Fisher (EUR) 2 UP Stricker/Woods (USA)
Donald/Harrington (EUR) 3&2 Watson/Overton (USA)

Europe 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 United States

This is the first time the United States has led after the first session of a Ryder Cup in Europe since 1989.
