We've now played seven games in the English Premier League, so it's about time to check in on how things are going. The big story is Chelsea, who are running away with the league so far. They have outscored their opponents by the remarkable margin of 23-2, and they easily swept aside Arsenal by 2-0 over the weekend. Man City, who just barely missed finishing in the top four (and qualifying for the Champions' League) last year, is off to a better start this year. In fact, they are the only team to beat Chelsea. It appears that City and Spurs will once again battle for the last Champions' League spot behind Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal. Poor old Liverpool is currently wallowing in 18th place after losing at home to Blackpool. I can't believe Liverpool will actually find itself in a relegation fight, but with a record of 1-3-3, they are not looking like strong contenders for the top 4.
1. Chelsea 6-1-0 (18 points)
2. Man City 4-1-2 (14 points)
3. Man Utd 3-0-4 (13 points)
4. Arsenal 3-2-2 (11 points) (goal differential of 7)
5. Spurs 3-2-2 (11 points) (goal differential of 2)
6. WBA 3-2-2 (11 points) (goal differential of -3)
Wow! What has happened to Liverpool?
ReplyDeleteIt's very tough to get knocked out of the Champions' League -- you lose a lot of money, and big-time players don't want to be on your team. Also, Liverpool's owners have a major debt problem, so the whole club is in a mess right now.
