For the first time, the pressure seems to have gotten to the Giants. After Raul Ibanez led off with a single, Lincecum hit Carlos Ruiz. Halladay tried to bunt the runners along, and Ibanez should have been out at third, but the Giants' third baseman missed the bag with his foot. (He still threw out Halladay, who simply stood at home plate watching the action as if he were a spectator.) Shane Victorino then hit a grounder that was booted by first baseman Audrey Huff. (Really booted. It went into the outfield.) Ruiz and Ibanez scored, while Victorino ran all the way to second.
Smelling blood now, Placido Polanco smacked a single to score Victorino, and Chase Utley followed with another single to put runners at the corners with only one out -- bringing up Ryan Howard to level the killing blow. But he struck out, and Jayson Werth flew out to left. So the Giants are still in the game. But the Phillies finally showed some of their old spirit.
