"I thought they'd come out and put it out, even if you hadn't paid your $75."

In a story that's getting a lot of play on the interwebs, this man in South Fulton, Tennessee thought wrong.

  1. That's like the old system they use to have in Philadelphia way back in the day. If you visit the old historical houses many of them will have a crest on the door that represents the fire company they paid to protect their house.

  2. Yup, I think those crests were fairly widespread among cities and early emergency services.

    I didn't quite ever think about how big of a disparity there was in terms of firefighting service from city to rural jurisdictions until we moved back here. The difference in expectation for what can be done for you in Madisonville vs. what can be done for you in parts of Hopkins County is fairly sharp--and, of course, all of this is reflected in property value, insurance premiums, etc., I'm told.
