I'm not the biggest blues fan in the world, but it has had its moments in my life. But if you like blues and if you know Buddy Guy then my guess is you'll like this album.
At 74 years old Guy still has a great vocal presence and an incredible talent on the guitar. That's the real heart of this album is Guy's guitar playing. It's dirty, fast, and screams the blues. All in all this is a very solid album.
I think the album does a very good job of capturing the live sound and energy of Guy and his band. My only problem with the album is that it feels like a concert instead of a constructed album. There is no theme to the songs, no theme to the sound, it's just a collection of blues songs. We can jump straight from a gospel hinted song like "Everybody's Got to Go" to a classic Chicago blues track like "Guess What" and it can leave you feeling a bit disconcerted.
If you are in the mood to listen to a blues album, throw this one on and you won't be disappointed.
It will be very hard for any blues album to get a three star rating from me, so following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
this sounds a lot like the very big Bonnie Raitt albums, which i enjoyed.
