Album Review: Hurley by Weezer

HurleyI'm not the biggest Weezer fan in the world but they have been consistent over the past 16 years.  A lot of the credit has to go to their leader Rivers Cuomo who writes most everything and has been very prolific the past few years.  He's managed to age his songs with himself and so you can see where the music would still feel real to the same fans they grabbed those 16 years ago.

A lot is being made about the fact that he collaborated on quite a few of the songs on this album, even working with Mac Davis, but if no one told you this you wouldn't know.  Cuomo still dominates the songs with his hard pop focus, and his self critical lyrics.

There are some pretty good pop songs on this album, but the Weezer sound wears me down over a whole album, even one with only 10 tracks.

I could see throwing this album on while painting the house or driving back from a day trip to the beach.  Personally I think it's best digested in one song intervals.  Mix it with a bunch of other albums so you don't get overwhelmed by Weezer and you'll see that most every song has a catchy tune and pretty good lyrics.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
