So these guys are a straight up dance, hip-hop band. They go for a very stripped down sound with pop melodies over simple beats. Very little sampling or noise to their sound. It's a sound I really like. Every song has a good hook and a good beat. You could definitely see dancing to this album.
But there is a big problem. Their lyrics are junk. I understand they are aiming at a club scene, but you can still put some depth to your lyrics and produce a good dance song. Every song doesn't have to be about getting drunk and going back to the room. Sad to say it turns what could be a good album into something that I would be embarrassed to play.
If these guys grow up and choose to put some thought into what they are writing, then they have some real potential. But as it is this album has nothing to offer.
I could see throwing a few of these songs on a workout mix.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
This sparse, Pong-ish pocket of the hip-hop genre is not at all my taste. I do, however, love a lot of the more layered/sampled hip-hop sound--but share the same basic criticism you have voiced here.
