Album Review: The Age of Adz by Sufjan Stevens

The Age of AdzWhen you think Sufjan Stevens you think poignant lyrics, delicate voice, delicate guitar.  Well times change.  Stevens is obviously tired of what he's been and is experimenting with a new sound.  In fact he apparently went out and bought a synthesizer and then recorded the subsequent stuff he learned to do on it.

Honestly this is about as artful as something Homer Simpson would have made using a synthesizer.  His best instrument, his voice, is hidden away and we are left with his poor experimentation.

I'm all for people changing their sound and all for being experimental with sound, but this is simply ridiculous.  There is nothing good I can say about his album.  There is I'm sure a special place in Hell where people are forced to sit and listen to the final 25 minute song.

Another never play album.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 0 out of 5 stars for Don't Like.

  1. The HP's art coverage has been on a roll of late. We've been covering movies, TV, books, and music. We've even had a short story and a cooking article. The Style section of the HP is really starting to catch up with the sports coverage.
