On Saturday the time trial was held and the much talked about Taylor Phinney took the stage. At 20 years old he just started riding at the top level a few months ago. He already has a couple of stage wins and now he will wear the US time trial jersey next season. Well at least until the championship is held at its new time in May next year. Phinney took the win just 14 hundredths of a second ahead of Levi Leipheimer. Phinney of course is the big name of up and coming US cyclists and it had always been assumed he would continue to associate with Armstrong and move onto the Radio Shack team next year, but now there is talk that he may sign with another team. This will be interesting to follow. I have to say I wonder if this has been influenced by the investigation into Armstrong.

The road race was held on Sunday. Chris Horner and George Hincapie had both talked about wanting to take this title, but it was another youngster, this time 21 year old Benjamin King. He was part of a breakaway early on, and made it stick. The rest of the field just blew it giving the kid too much room.
