Oh, Kentucky

Heath grad Steven Curtis Chapman plays in Murray on Friday night. Rachel and I took the kids from our church to one of his concerts in Raleigh a few years ago. It was interesting to see just how iconic he clearly is in the Christian-rock community. The vast majority of the crowd of 6,000 people or so knew all of these gestures that go along with his songs. Chapman is obviously a real pro at his craft, and I don't think there's any question that he's working hard to do what he honestly thinks he's supposed to be doing on Earth.

Two of my retirement heroes are my mom (who, after getting her kids out of the house and after Dad died, returned to her hometown, Evansville, and signed up for a regular weekly gig to do a day of food distribution from the Salvation Army) and my father-in-law (who, at age 69, gets out on more weekdays than not to help build houses around Madisonville through the local Habitat for Humanity chapter).

Rivalry week!

  1. Chapman's last album was the first I've ever listened to and it surprised me how good it was. I can see why he's a big star.
