At this minute, it appears that Micah Johnson, the former Fort Campbell HS Falcon and UK Wildcat, is hanging on the Dolphins' 53-man roster. Miami had 20 players to cut today. Today's Twitter dispatches from various Dolphins writers suggest that the cuts so far include LB Erik Walden, G Donald Thomas, WR Patrick Turner and DT Montavious Stanley (according to Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington); DE Lionel Dotson, RT Andrew Gardner and QB Pat White (according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Mike Berardino) and WR Julius Pruitt and LB Austin Spitler (according to Miami Herald's David J. Neal). The reported Spitler release could be a key indicator, as he plays inside linebacker and was a Dolphins' seventh-round draft choice this April.
This is killing me. I'm so jittery and nervous, refreshing the various Twitter feeds and blogs. I think I'll go to the hardware store with Rachel and Virginia to get away from things for an hour or two. Final cuts dues to the NFL by 3 p.m. Central.
Good luck, Micah!

ReplyDeleteOK, back from shopping (got a Ball State golf bag for $5 at the Salvation Army store), and things are getting very exciting.
ReplyDeleteSun-Sentinel's Berardino has Tweeted five new Dolphin cut names: TE David Martin, OL Andrew Hartline, DL Ryan Baker, CB Kevin Hobbs and ILB J.D. Folsom. From our main man Micah's perspective, the key name there is Folsom. Media speculation has had Folsom and also-cut Spitler as Johnson's primary competition for a roster spot.
By my count, we now know 14 of 20 Dolphins' cuts. Berardino, by the way, has also Tweeted that the NFL deadline for cuts is 5 p.m. Central (not 3, as earlier relayed by The Heath Post, who regretfully acknowledges the mistake).
What a day for football in the Commonwealth! Early in the second quarter, it's Kentucky (and new coach Joker Phillips of Franklin!) 13, Louisville 3. ABC showed John Calipari tossing football on the UK sidelines.
ReplyDeleteSad news out of Arizona: The Cardinals have waived RB Alfonso Smith, formerly of Louisville's Waggener High School and the University of Kentucky.
ReplyDeleteUK 19, U of L 3 ...
ReplyDeleteIt appears as though T George Bussey of U of L and Louisville's Western High School and DT Myron Pryor of UK and Louisville-Eastern have both made the New England Patriots' 53-man roster.
ReplyDeleteIt appears as though DT Corey Peters of UK and Louisville-Central and QB Chris Redman of U of L and Louisville-Male have withstood the Atlanta Falcons' cut.
ReplyDeleteLouisville field goal ... 20-6 with 3:38 to play in the half ... UK three-and-out ...
ReplyDeleteABC's trivia question: Who's the only individual to be an inductee of both UK's and U of L's athletics halls of fame?
Ouch ... reports are that the Carolina Panthers have released QB Hunter Cantwell of U of L and Paducah Tilghman.
ReplyDeleteHoward Schnellenberger.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise, but it appears that veteran RB Michael Bush of U of L and Louisville-Male will be back with the Oakland Raiders this season. He's hurt, however.
ReplyDeleteUK 23, Louisville 6 ... 6:52 to go in third quarter.
ReplyDeleteLouisville touchdown ... UK 23, Louisville 13 ... 8:41 in third (obviously, I had the time wrong in the previous missive).
ReplyDeleteFROM MIKE BERARDINO OF THE SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL, VIA TWITTER: "Source tells me #Dolphins ILB Micah Johnson has officially made the cut. Undrafted rookie from Kentucky had a tremendous camp."--http://twitter.com/MikeBerardino
ReplyDeleteAgain, not a surprise here, but it appears that the Philadelphia Eagles' kicker for 2010 will again be David Akers, of U of L and Lexington-Tates Creek.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific day ... cool and comfortable ... sun dropping ... UK taking over after interception with 1:16 to go in the third ... Virginia still napping ... Micah Johnson has apparently made it in Miami ... I think we're going to go out and fly a kite at the city's old downtown football field at some point soon ...
ReplyDeleteLouisville converts a fourth down, and now they're inside the Kentucky 30 with six minutes to play.
ReplyDeleteRachel's reaction to my telling her the Micah Johnson news: "Great. Now maybe you'll start rooting for the Dolphins."
Fourth-and-17, and Louisville picks up a first down on a UK roughing-the-passer penalty. This reminds me of a key (jive) roughing-the-passer called on Micah Johnson, maybe against South Carolina, late in a game that Kentucky lost. I was watching that game at a Kentucky State Park, maybe Lake Cumberland.
ReplyDelete3:20 to go ... fourth-and-8 coming up for Louisville inside the UK 10 ... this time, the Cardinals will go for the field goal (trailing by 10) ... and it's good: 23-16.
ReplyDeleteNice straight arm and end run by Randall Cobb gives UK a first down at the 50 inside of two minutes to play.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Joker Phillips of Franklin! UK 23, Louisville 16. And this concludes today's "Kentucky minute" coverage.
ReplyDeleteOne last report ... like we needed another reason to despise the Patriots ... New England did cut T George Bussey of U of L and Louisville's Western High School, after all.
ReplyDeleteAnd Miami did announce its final cuts, and it should be pointed out that Micah Johnson did make the 53 (as did returning strong safety Yeremiah Bell of George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester and Eastern Kentucky University).
Thank you, and good night. You've been fantastic!
