I've never been a big fan of Emo, and so I don't really know anything about Jimmy Eat World, but these guys are given credit by a lot of people for bringing Emo into the mainstream with their platinum album Bleed American back in 2001. The big hit song off of that album was "The Middle" and I'm sure you've heard the song.
Anyhow Emo is associated with youthfulness, to say the least, and nine years later these guys are in their mid 30s and so they are left with a difficult task. As artists they are tied to Emo and so how do they grow and change and stay relevant without trying to be what they are not?
Well you do that by softening the sound a bit, slowing down the pace, and writing songs that are more reflective than confrontational. It definitely makes the album more accessible to someone my age and so I wonder how it will be accepted by their fan base, who is also aging.
I have to say in many ways this reminds me of the path that Weezer is taking lately. Nothing wrong with that but it's interesting watching these guys age.
It's still Emo to me so I don't really see myself playing this anytime. I could see throwing it on while prepping the house for party, or spending Sunday making food for the week.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
Sounds like a good album- I will check out - thanks for the review :)
