Album Review: Hands All Over by Maroon 5
Who says soft pop rock is dead? Not these guys. This album is twelve songs, 40 minutes, of easy listening pop rock. It feels like a throw back to the Bee Gees but without the spark. There really isn't one song on the album that jumps out at and grabs you. There also isn't a song on the album that you feel the need to skip.
The only song that really holds any interest is the last song on the album featuring Lady Antebellum. It's a nice duet that has a different feel than the rest of the album. In fact it's the only song that seems to have any feelings attached to it. The album for the most part is emotionless and bland. Blending this soft pop rock with Lady Antebellum's soft pop country takes you back to the 70s or early 80s and has a nice feel.
I actually like Adam Levine's voice, but his singing lacks any real emotion on this album. The opening song called "Misery" could be a song about going to the groceries for all of the emotion in the song.
Anyhow if you want an album to throw on in the background while you cook dinner, this will get it done. I could even see throwing the song "Give a Little More" onto a run mix just for the beat, but outside of that I can't see any reason to ever put this record on.
Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.

i find this song compelling. this is not a sound i typically seek out, but very frequently i find myself enjoying it when i do hear it.
ReplyDeleteon another note, this is not at all what i expected maroon 5 to sound like. i've heard of this outfit several times but don't believe i'd ever heard one of its songs. or maybe i had and didn't realize i had.
