Oh, Kentucky

The lowest jobless rate in Kentucky was recorded in Boyd County last month; highest, in Magoffin.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on the Dolphins' exhibition loss to Atlana on Friday: "Couldn’t help but wonder why Micah Johnson was the first inside linebacker sub in the game. Then I watched him play and GOT IT. Johnson has a knack for sniffing out the run, and he hits with power."

"The Clear Creek Festival provides an opportunity to envision and enact what an alternative society ... that actively challenges patriarchy, racism, homophobia, environmental degradation and other injustices in this region and throughout America."

The 2010 Kentucky Preserve America History Teacher of the Year, from the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS), goes to a teacher from Paducah Tilghman.

By the way, there is a Paducah Life Magazine.

And some final notes on Week 2 in Kentucky high-school football: Boyle County 51, Franklin County 20 in Danville ... Invictus worked; Henderson County 40 at Evansville North 20 ... Herrin, Ill., 20 vs. Hopkins County Central 14; this game was also played in Metropolis, where Crittenden County beat Massac County ... Mayfield 45, Trigg County 7 (Trigg County's kicker, by the way, arrived at halftime of last week's game because he had been playing earlier in the day with the Wildcats' soccer team, in a Graves County tournament) ... Warren Central 7 at Franklin-Simpson 6 ... The Paducah Sun's Dusty Luthy Stull has some nice coverage on Josh Forrest's contested touchdown catch for Tilghman that turned Friday night's game with St. Louis's Gateway Tech in the Blue Tornado's favor ... Of some Friday-night games, Kevin Stewart writes at www.WestKentuckyStar.com that Murray sealed its touchdown victory over crosstown Calloway County with an interception inside the 10 with less than a minute to play, that Lone Oak scored a 50-yard field goal in its win over Reidland and that Ballard Memorial was playing short-handed in its loss to Union County because of discipline suspensions.
