Day 4 of the FIBA World Championship

The big story today was that my beloved Lithuanians (the Kentuckians of Europe) stormed back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to knock off the world champions from Spain, dropping Spain to 1-2 in the group stages and ensuring them a very difficult road through the knockout stages.

Turkey won a big rivalry game against Greece -- the whole tournament is taking place in Turkey, so the Turks really needed that one -- making Turkey the only 3-0 team in Group C. France and Lithuania are the only 3-0 teams in Group D. They will play each other tomorrow.

Puerto Rico picked up a big win over China to improve their record to 1-2 and keep alive their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages. Canada dropped to 0-3.

The USA will play Iran tomorrow in what must be regarded as another rivalry game.

GROUP C:
Russia 72 - 66 Ivory Coast
Puerto Rico 84 - 76 China
Greece 65 - 76 Turkey

GROUP D:
New Zealand 108 - 76 Lebanon
France 68 - 63 Canada
Spain 73 - 76 Lithuania
