Tour De France: Team Competition
The team competition is actually a very fun competition. Usually it is fought out between two teams as was the case this year. In the final mountain stage Radioshack let Levi Leipheimer's top ten finish go to protect their lead in the team competition. This should give you some sense of what this means to these guys. It's $70,000 for each member of the winning team. Obviously Radioshack came into the Tour looking to give Lance his eighth win, and in that sense this was a disappointing Tour, but as a team they did quite well. They were consistently in the breaks, consistent in the mountains, and not only won the team competition, but won a stage as well. All in all this is a good result for this team of veterans.
